Zinedine Zidane dismisses insinuation by Barcelona's Gerard Pique that Real Madrid receive help from referees

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has dismissed the idea that Los Blancos are helped by officials after some controversial quotes from Barcelona's Gerard Pique on Friday.

Following Barcelona's 0-0 draw away to Sevilla, which handed Madrid the initiative in the title race, Pique said he thought it would be 'very difficult to win LaLiga' after what he had seen in the past two rounds of the competition.

Those remarks were widely interpreted as a reference to VAR decisions which went Madrid's way in Los Blancos' wins over Eibar and Valencia over the past week.

Zidane was asked about Pique's comments in a press conference on Saturday and said: "As always, whatever they say, what I'm interested in is tomorrow's game.

"I have my opinion, but I won't say it because the same thing could happen the other way around. Everyone has their feelings.

"I'm only interested in the game, that's what motivates us. Nothing more."

In a follow-up question, it was then put to Zidane that Pique had meant that Madrid were favoured by officials.

"No," the Frenchman said. "I'm very direct. I don't think so. Nothing more."

Real Madrid are three points behind Barca with a game in hand but will go top of LaLiga courtesy of their superior head-to-head record if they beat Real Sociedad at Anoeta on Sunday night.
