St Etienne have confirmed they have made their move for Zinedine Ferhat following Celtic’s link to the Algerian midfielder.
Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou has wasted no time in making a huge impact in the winter transfer window by swooping for Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi.
He's also been linked with a move for Nimes playmaker Ferhat who is out of contract at the end of the season as he continues to try and beef up his squad.
Ferhat, who has won 12 caps for the African nation, has reportedly attracted interest from the Parkhead club and other teams in France including St Etienne and Montpellier.
And St Etienne's new boss Pascal Dupraz has confirmed he will try and sign the 28-year-old as they attempt to avoid relegation from Ligue 1.
He said: "Ferhat is on the short-list, yes. He is an interesting player who has plenty of skill when he plays to his full potential. We are hopeful.
"My hope is to bring in four or five players this month. It will depend on finances. We have to strengthen the team in attack and defence and increase the competition for places.
"The players we bring in have to be better than what we already have. It is difficult at the moment with the African Cup of Nations and Covid to work to bring in players, but we will do our best."
Ferhat was also linked with Rangers during the summer transfer window in 2021.
