Zinedine Ferhat in Rangers transfer link as race heats up to land Nimes midfielder after eye-catching season

Nimes midfielder Zinedine Ferhat is reportedly being tracked by Rangers after a head-turning season in Ligue 1.

The relative minnows can still escape relegation but there's a high probability their key playmaker will be heading for the exit door with Sassuolo also believed to be keen on the Algeria international.

Ferhat spent three seasons in Ligue 2 with Le Havre but it's been his eye-catching displays in France's top flight that has teams across the continent keeping close tabs.

Foot Mercato claim Rangers have "checked his name" with Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson hell-bent on adding to their squad before crucial Champions League qualifiers in the summer.

Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman was previously linked and Rangers could see Bongani Zungu depart after an underwhelming 12-month loan from Amiens.

Ferhat can play in multiple positions in the midfield and specialises in dictating the play in the middle of the park.

Gerrard admitted on Tuesday he is always looking to strengthen his team.

He said: "There's other areas of the team and squad where we're actively working towards strengthening and come the Champions League qualifiers, whether it's the third round or the fourth, we'll have a team and a squad ready to go and give it our best shot."
