Zinckernagel, Osei-Tutu, Johnson - Nottingham Forest predicted XI to face Bournemouth

Back at the City Ground, in front of a bumper crowd, Nottingham Forest will be eager to put their opening day disappointment behind them this weekend.

Defeat at Coventry City was not the start to the Championship season the Reds were looking for, and they will be out to make up for that against Bournemouth.

Forest fans were able to watch their team on home turf for the first time since March 2020 in midweek, when they progressed to the second round of the Carabao Cup.

And the stands are expected to be packed on Saturday, as Chris Hughton’s men aim to get off the mark in their league campaign.

It was a youthful XI which toppled Bradford City on Wednesday night, and several of those involved will hope they have at least given the manager food for thought when it comes to his team selections this term.

Summer signings Philip Zinckernagel and Ethan Horvath also made their full debuts, while Jordi Osei-Tutu will be available to face the Cherries after putting pen to paper on Tuesday evening.

Injuries continue to hamper Hughton’s options, though. Loic Mbe Soh is likely to be sidelined for several weeks with a groin problem, and the manager has said fellow defender Joe Worrall (calf) is likely to be missing this weekend, too.

It remains to be seen whether striker Lewis Grabban is involved, now he has returned to training after self-isolating.

But Forest will definitely be without Gaetan Bong, who has been suspended for three matches, following an incident against the Sky Blues.

Left-back was a problem area before, and that will only add to Hughton’s woes. Osei-Tutu is capable of playing there, though, and seems the most likely choice to face Bournemouth.

That would leave Jordan Gabriel to keep his place at right-back, with Scott McKenna and Tobias Figueiredo (who is also returning from injury) the only senior centre-backs available.

Although Horvath generally did well in the cup clash, it would take a big call for the manager to replace Brice Samba as his No.1 - for the time being at least.

Cafu started in midfield against Bradford, while Tyrese Fornah will hope his man of the match display alongside him has put him into Hughton’s thoughts.

It was Jack Colback and Ryan Yates who got the nod last weekend, leaving Hughton with a decision to make.

The same applies with the attacking trio behind the lone striker.

Zinckernagel has given a glimpse of what he has to offer in his two appearances, setting up both of Joao Carvalho’s goals at the City Ground. And those two strikes also saw the Portuguese capture the headlines.

Brennan Johnson had done the same against Coventry, catching the eye with his display, while Hughton also has Joe Lolley and Alex Mighten available.

If Grabban is deemed not quite ready to start on Saturday, it will be Lyle Taylor who gets the green light up front.

Predicted Forest XI: Samba, Gabriel, Figueiredo, McKenna, Osei-Tutu, Colback, Yates, Zinckernagel, Johnson, Mighten, Taylor.
