Zimbabwe fined for slow overate in 3rd T20I against Afghanistan

NEW DELHI: Zimbabwe cricket team has been penalised for their slow over-rate during the final T20I match against Afghanistan at the Harare Sports Club.

The on-field umpires Iknow Chabi and Forster Mutizwa, along with third umpire Percival Sizara and fourth umpire Langton Rusere, brought forth the charges.

Team captain Sikandar Raza acknowledged the violation and accepted the penalties imposed by Emirates ICC Elite Panel Match Referee Andy Pycroft.

The sanctions were imposed under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which stipulates that teams must maintain minimum over-rates, with players receiving a five per cent match fee deduction for each over bowled beyond the allocated time.

Afghanistan's visit to Zimbabwe encompasses multiple formats, beginning with a three-match T20I series.

Despite Zimbabwe securing victory in the opening match, Afghanistan claimed the series by winning the subsequent two games.

The teams are set to compete in three ODIs, followed by two Test matches.
