Zig and Zag reveal shelved plans for a Christmas special of The Den and fans are disappointed

The production company behind Zig & Zag have revealed the plan for a Christmas special of The Den, which would've aired this festive season before RTE pulled the plug on the show.

There was an incredible amount of backlash surrounding the decision by the broadcaster earlier this year to axe the family entertainment show.

And hopes of a Christmas special have now been quashed too - but that hasn't stopped Double Z Creative from posting what that special might have looked like.

It features the usual duo along with Dustin the Turkey and Ray D'Arcy as well as a throwback to Christmas specials of old with an appearance from everyone's favourite evil duo, Podge and Rodge.

Doesn't that just sound fantastic?

For what it's worth, what RTE are actually showing at 6.30 on RTE One on Christmas Day is The Grinch.

The iconic kids show made a triumphant return with Ray D'Arcy, Dustin the Turkey and Zig and Zag in the run up to Christmas last year, giving viewers some much needed light-relief during lockdown.

Disappointed fans flocked to the comments at the time to react to the news of the cancellation, with former Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan leading the charge saying: “That is a bad decision.”

Another said: “shockingly bad call there,” while someone else added: “Raging. Thanks so much for what you gave us though. Loved every second.”
