Rangers have been told by the Spanish referee Antonio Lopez Nieto that their appeal against his dismissal of Arthur Numan for two bookable offences during Wednesday's Champions League tie at Sturm Graz will fail.
Rangers will appeal to Uefa over the first caution for re- entering play without permission because television evidence appears to show Nieto waving for Numan to come on. But Nieto said: "Uefa contacted me on Thursday as I was returning from Austria and I told them my version of events. They seemed to accept what I said, that I didn't wave him on but was saying for him to wait. I cannot see how the decision will be changed."
