Zinedine Zidane has signed a four-year deal with Real Madrid after the Spanish champions agreed a world-record transfer fee with Juventus.
The Frenchman announced on his personal website that the deal had gone through after a morning of negotiations in Madrid.
"I'm officially confirming that I have signed a four-year contract with Real Madrid with an option for a further year for a fee between £48million and 50million," he said.
"However this transfer will come into effect after Real Madrid receive a fax from Juventus to confirm the transfer."
The fee will smash the £37million Real Madrid bought Barcelona winger Luis Figo for last summer. Reports suggest that the 29-year-old will also earn £3.5m after tax for each season at Real.
Zidane flew in to the military airbase of Torrejon close to Madrid in a private jet on Sunday evening and underwent a medical on Monday morning.
Real were in a hurry to close the deal with the Serie A club as Zidane is due to travel to Moscow on Thursday to lend his support to the Paris bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
Ever since taking over the post last summer, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has made no secret of his desire to buy Zidane, although Juventus initially said the Frenchman was not for sale.
But after the player gave his go-ahead to the operation and following a meeting between Perez and directors of the Serie A club in Switzerland at the beginning of last week, the move to Madrid was finally agreed.
