Zidane Iqbal had fans purring with his performance against Atalanta U19s in the UEFA Youth League after a scintillating display for United.
The 18-year-old pulled a goal back for the Reds as they brushed aside the Italians in a 4-2 victory at Leigh Sports Village with Iqbal scoring the first of three goals which came in a 10-minute salvo with Omari Forson adding a fourth in the second half..
He picked up the ball just outside the box and passed the ball into the bottom corner for his third goal of the season in all competitions before Joe Hugill and Alejandro Garnacho sent the young Reds in 3-1 up at the break.
Forson put the game reasonably out of sight before a stunning individual effort from Tommaso De Nipoti scratched some of the glitter off the performance.
But Iqbal sent the fans into overdrive with his display.
It proved to be an important win for Neil Wood's side as the win moved them into second bouncing back from the 4-1 defeat to Villarreal last time out.
The win puts the Reds in a decent position going into the return match in Bergamo in two weeks' time as they came to within a point of the Yellows who top Group F.
For Iqbal the plaudits continue after he scored a stunner in the Papa John's Trophy clash with Sunderland a week ago where he expertly curled into the top corner after a great training ground move.
The U19s will return to action in Europe in two weeks as they travel to Italy to face Atalanta on November 2. Some of the squad they will feature against Wolves this Saturday for the U18s whilst others will make the trip to London to face West Ham with the under 23s on the same day.
