Zero positive COVID-19 cases recorded in latest round of Scottish Premiership tests

No Scottish Premiership players have tested positive for COVID-19 in the latest round of testing prior to the start of the new campaign.

The SFA / SPFL Joint Response Group confirmed zero cases of coronavirus had been recorded among 1,055 examinations carried out on top flight players between July 6 and July 12.

It comes after a member of the Aberdeen squad tested positive for the condition during the first round of medical checks from June 29 to July 5.

The player - who was not identified - was later revealed to be asymptomatic and was placed into self-isolation.

Scottish Premiership sides were given the green light to return to action behind closed doors from August 1 after the Scottish Government moved forward with plans to move into phase three of easing coronavirus restrictions.

Clubs were also permitted to return to bounce games last weekend, with Hibernian recording a 1-1 draw with St Mirren behind closed doors at their East Mains training ground.

A statement from the Joint Response Group read: "The Joint Response Group can confirm that between Monday 6 July and Sunday 12 July, a total of 1055 Scottish Premiership players and team staff were tested for COVID-19, with no positive results recorded.

"The Joint Response Group will provide this information weekly as part of its Return to Football strategy and for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency.

"Due to medical confidentiality, no specific details will be provided on individuals tested."
