President Donald Trump couldn’t help himself from propagating lies even at the turkey pardon ceremony. On Tuesday, Nov. 25, he pardoned Gobble and Waddle from the Thanksgiving tables, but then stained his speech with false facts about D.C.
Boasting about his crime administration before pardoning the turkeys, Trump went a little overboard with fake facts. He first spoke on illegal immigrant control, claiming “our border had zero people coming in for the last seven months.” He admitted even he finds it “hard to believe,” which was probably his inner conscience telling him to stop. But he didn’t listen to that voice and continued,
Tom Holman, Kristi Noem, the whole group—the job they’ve done on the border is almost like a miracle. And the people that make these statistics… they’ve said zero for the last seven months… and they’re radical left Democrats who do the scoring, so I can’t imagine they did that for us.
Trump says D.C. has had no murders since May
After boasting about his border control, the president concentrated on the capital. “Washington, D.C., is considered a safe zone,” he declared with confidence. “This was one of our most unsafe places anywhere in the United States. It is now considered a totally safe city,” he claimed. Sadly, the statistics he decided to lie about are publicly available. So, his lies didn’t stand a chance.
Trump boldly announced, “We haven’t had a murder in six months” in D.C. Despite admitting that the city was averaging one to two murders a week, he thought his claim wasn’t unbelievable. On top of it, he didn’t bother doing one simple Google search before making such an announcement. According to the MPD data, 62 homicides have been recorded in Washington since May 25, 2025. And since the beginning of the year, 123 people have been murdered.

But Trump believes Washington is a utopia now. “Washington, D.C., is now a totally safe city, and a year ago it was a criminal mess,” he said. Even if we put the homicide number aside, the capital is far from a haven. There have been 50 sex abuse crimes, 497 weapon assaults, and 648 robberies in the last six months in D.C. Additionally, 11,047 property crimes like burglary, theft, and arson were reported during the period, too.
Trump also went ahead and credited his deployment of the National Guard as the reason behind the clean crime record. And with that, he disgraced both himself and the troops. If he had simply compared the numbers to those of a year before, he still could’ve made a good speech. According to D.C. statistics, crimes decreased by 3,555 during the past six months when compared to the same dates in 2024. But Trump chose to instead outrageously lie, and it has understandably backfired.
