It has been a rough week to be a Miami Dolphins fan. First, EA Sports unveiled their player and team ratings for their upcoming release of “Madden 20”, and it was revealed that the Dolphins are — in their eyes — easily the worst team in football. Also on Monday, CBS Sports released a ranking of the top-100 players in the NFL.
The Miami Dolphins were the only team to not place a single player on the list.
The omission of left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the list isn’t overly surprising, given his youth and the time it has taken him to develop into the budding all-star caliber blocker he is today. But to leave Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard off the list? That’s a surprise.
The list did include 10 cornerbacks — including Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White, Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Desmond King and Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones within the final 10 spots on the list.
Also included on the list? Dolphins’ 2019 free agency target Trey Flowers, who ultimately signed a massive 5-year, $90M contract with the Lions after flirting with the Dolphins and a reunion with coach Brian Flores.
Fans hoping to see Miami ascend the ranks of the NFL have to hope that the sum of the Dolphins’ parts are currently greater than each individual at this point. Because while Miami’s roster is young and has some talented football players, the only omission that Dolphins fans can gripe about is that of Xavien Howard. This team will need a lot more top-100 players on the roster if they’re ever going to turn the corner and challenge for a title.
