Zero Carbon Battle Bus stops off in Lanarkshire for COP26

The Zero Carbon Battle Bus has visited Lanarkshire during its UK-wide tour ahead of COP26.

Bike Town, part of Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust, in Rutherglen welcomed the impressive electric vehicle on Friday.

A number of community groups attended on the day as representatives from the tour bus filmed and interviewed locals on the work they're doing to tackle climate change.

The government-funded Zero Carbon Bus Tour is a project by sustainability experts Planet Mark.

Their journey throughout the UK sees their big blue bus stop off at numerous communities to learn about their eco-friendly initiatives and encourage greener ways of living.

Bike Town along with Greening Camglen were on hand to tell all about the great work the partnership is doing - with other community groups including Grow 73 and Resolve Recycle also taking part to discuss their own 'carbon stories' and what is being done to tackle environmental issues in the community.

The groups were treated to a fantastic tour of the electric bus as it stopped off in the Lanarkshire town.

South Lanarkshire Council helped organise the bus tour to Rutherglen which proved a huge success leading up to the COP26 summit which began this week.

Those involved also took time to plant some trees in the local area in what was a successful eco-friendly day.

Tam Curry, senior team leader from Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust told Lanarkshire Live: “We were delighted to have a visit from the #ZeroCarbonTour electric bus at CamGlen Bike Town.

"They are passionate about their climate change mission and were very enthusiastic about what the Greening CamGlen Network are doing locally to tackle climate change.

"Attending Greening CamGlen partners, Healthy n Happy, Grow 73 and Revolve Recycle, were interviewed about their ‘carbon stories’, which will be shared during COP26.

"This gave us a chance to reflect on the positive impact our green practises are having within our local communities.

“They also participated in some tree planting outside Bike Town and we got an impressive tour of the electric bus!”.
