'Zelda'-Themed Nintendo Switch 2 Controller Leaks Online—Is It Tied to 'Ocarina of Time' Remake?

A new leak points to a "Legend of Zelda"-themed controller heading to Nintendo Switch 2, though its connection to a specific title in the franchise remains uncertain.

Two separate leakers shared details about the accessory this week, offering the clearest picture yet of what the hardware might actually look like.

Nintendo Is Making a 'Zelda'-themed Switch 2 Controller

Leaker Shpeshal Nick shared new details on X, pointing to a "Zelda" themed controller rather than a full limited-edition console. This follows an earlier leak from March, when Nick first claimed Nintendo was preparing a "Zelda"-themed Limited-Edition Switch 2 console to accompany a rumored "Ocarina of Time" remake.

Fellow leaker Mike Odyssey suggested this controller could take the place of that previously-rumored special edition console entirely. According to their reasoning, profit margins on a controller are considerably better than on console hardware right now, especially given current economic conditions surrounding special edition consoles.

Leaker Necrolipe added more fetails, claiming to have seen the controller's actual design. According to Necrolipe, the controller features a Triforce emblem placed between the plus and minus buttons, with green and gold hand grips similar in style to the existing "Splatoon"-themed Switch Pro Controller.

Is There a Game Tie-In to 'Zelda' Switch 2 Controller?

Earlier rumors tied this hardware directly to a rumored "Ocarina of Time" remake, with Shpeshal Nick originally reporting back in March. He said that Nintendo planned to release a "Zelda"-themed Limited-Edition Switch 2 console alongside that game's launch.

He noted at the time it remained unclear whether the game itself would be bundled with the hardware. Previously, Nintendo released a special "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom"-themed Switch OLED console, and it has not been replicated since with this latest-gen platform.

The latest claims from both Shpeshal Nick and Necrolipe suggest this controller may not be tied to any specific game release at all, positioning it instead as a broader "Zelda"-themed accessory rather than an "Ocarina of Time" specific tie-in.

Neither leaker has provided a confirmed release date, though speculation points toward a 2026 launch timed to coincide with "The Legend of Zelda" franchise's upcoming 40th anniversary.

What to Expect From Nintendo's 'Zelda'

"The Legend of Zelda" is approaching its 40th anniversary, and Nintendo has a long history of releasing special hardware to commemorate major moments for the franchise.

Past examples include the "Skyward Sword" Gold Wii Remote Plus in 2011, the "Wind Waker" HD Wii U in 2013, the "Majora's Mask" New 3DS XL in 2015, the "Tears of the Kingdom" Switch OLED in 2023, and the "Hyrule" Edition Switch Lite in 2024.

Given that pattern, a themed controller timed to the franchise's 40th anniversary would fit neatly alongside Nintendo's past approach to celebrating the series.

"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remains the highest rated game on Metacritic and continues to hold a devoted following decades after its original release.

That said, making any tie-in hardware to the iconic game, whether directly connected to a new remake or simply celebrating the franchise's milestone anniversary, could likely draw significant attention from longtime fans.
