Zeki Celik struggled in his Arsenal transfer audition after chastening night at Euro 2020 opener

Zeki Celik is one of several right backs who have been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks.

The Turkish defender was part of the Lille defence who have just been crowned champions in France, starring alongside his compatriots Burak Yilmaz and Yusuf Yazici.

football.london understands that Arsenal are targeting both fullback areas this summer, with Hector Bellerin set to leave the club and a back-up needed for Kieran Tierney.

Celik is one of several players on the shortlist for right back, as first revealed by the Evening Standard, and he played against Italy in Turkey's Euro 2020 opener on Friday night.

What has he said?

“I heard that there was interest from Tottenham, but I don’t know if they made an offer," Celik said when asked about interest from Arsenal's north London rivals last summer.

"In any case, I know that the Premier League is a league that I am attracted to, but I am happy to have stayed here when you look at the start to the season that we have had.”

How did he play?

It would be fair to say that Celik struggled against the Italians, as they dismantled Turkey's right hand side in Rome.

He provided a great pass over to Yilmaz in the opening ten minutes, which provided a glimpse at the understanding between both players.

However, the early promise quickly crumbled as Italy's attacking force of Insigne and Spinazzola double act caused countless problems for Celik.

There were also few forays into the Italian half which would have been disappointing for a player who evidently likes to get forward.

What will Arsenal do at right back this summer?

Inter star Achraf Hakimi is likely to be too expensive, while RB Leipzig and US national team star Tyler Adams could prove a more astute buy.

Adams has been linked with the Gunners in recent days and has a release clause in his current contract.

Meanwhile, Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers are both expected to stay at the club.

The biggest transfer news will be regarding Hector Bellerin, with one source telling football.london that Arsenal have already rejected an offer for the Spaniard.

Bellerin is wanted by Atletico Madrid and Villarreal, with the former Barcelona youngster keen on a new adventure where European football will be guaranteed.
