Zeekr Upgrades Popular Model as EV Competition Heats Up in China

What’s new: Electric-vehicle (EV) maker Zeekr Intelligent Technology Holding Ltd. has upgraded the basic version of its 007 sedan with more features while keeping its price unchanged at 209,900 yuan ($29,000) in an effort to boost orders as competition heats up with new entrants to the market.

The upgrades to the basic version of the 007 include 14-way adjustable front seats from the previous 8-way, heated rear seats, a self-developed high-end sound system and more, Zeekr, a unit of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd., said in a WeChat post Monday.

The 007 has an edge over competitors because all the versions are equipped with an 800-volt architecture that supports ultra-fast charging technology, a person close to Zeekr said.

The background: Launched in December, the 007 comes in five versions, which retail from 209,900 yuan to 299,900 yuan. Zeekr also sells the 001 sports sedan, the 009 multipurpose vehicle and the X SUV.

Zeekr, which filed for a U.S. IPO in November, delivered 13,012 vehicles in March, up 95% year-on-year, according to company data.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi Corp. launched its first electric car last week, and rival Nio Inc. announced Monday that it was offering subsidies of up to 1 billion yuan for optional interior parts and accessories to people who want to replace their fossil fuel cars with Nio vehicles.
