Zebre 5-6 Connacht: Andy Friend relieved as his men remain in control of their own destiny

Connacht coach Andy Friend was relieved they survived and remain in control of their own destiny after a major scare in Italy.

“We now switch our focus to Cardiff next weekend, and regardless of the result this weekend that was always going to be the case for us,” said Friend.

But while Connacht will need to show a huge improvement for next Saturday’s showdown with Cardiff Blues at the Sportsground, they will be relieved to leave Italy with the win that keeps them on course for a place-off spot in the pro14 and automatic entry to next season’s heineken Champions Cup.
