Zayn Malik fans win campaign to get racist song about him taken off Spotify

Zayn Malik fans are celebrating the success of their campaign to get a racist song about the star taken down from Spotify.

It appeared the popular streaming service had removed the song from parody artist's Uma Kompton's page on Sunday evening.

Released back in 2017, the track titled Zayn Did 9/11 made light of the 2001 terror attacks in which almost 3000 people were killed at the World Trade Center in New York City and at the Pentagon.

#RemoveItForZayn has recently been doing the social media rounds, and it appears as though the digital campaign has been a success.

Spotify told Mirror Online: "Spotify prohibits content on the platform which expressly and principally promotes, advocates, or incites hatred or violence against a group or individual based on characteristics including race, religion, gender identity, sex, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, veteran status or disability.

"When content that violates this standard is identified it is removed from the platform."

Fans have been vocal in their condemnation of the song and its lyrics.

One wrote: "What the hell is going on? How can they target zayn like that? We need to #removeitforzayn."

Another penned: "Zayn don't deserve this!! #removeitforzayn."

A third cheered when Spotify took the song down: "YESSSS!! SPOTIFY FINALLY TOOK IT DOWN! #removeitforzayn #zayndeservesbetter #zaynmalik."

A fourth tweeted: "His faith affiliation, skin colour, or race does not equal terrorism.

"If you let a minority group of any racial/religious group dictate your view of the majority of said group, then you need to re-evaluate your world view."

Meanwhile, Zayn's been sharing in his baby joy with girlfriend and mum to be Gigi Hadid.

Meanwhile, it's been speculated that a One Direction reunion could be on the cards, possibly meaning Zayn takes to the stage again with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.

Zayn left the band back in 2015, with the remaining four opting for an indefinite hiatus not long after.

They've all embarked on massively successful solo careers since.

Liam's got hopes up that the lads will be back together soon, though, as he teased that something may be around the corner.

But in the absence of any official announcement, Directioners have been left wanting.

Even if the boys do reform, it's not guarantee Zayn will be among them.
