Zavvi respond after Liverpool and Spurs fans left angry over Champions League final ticket draw

Online retailer Zavvi have issued an apology after telling customers that they had won a VIP trip to the Champions League final.

Zavvi, which emerged out of Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group, launched a competition in partnership with Mastercard which offered two adults an all-expenses paid two night trip to Madrid to watch the showpiece event between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, chaos ensued when an unspecified number of supposed winners received a personalised email telling them that they'd won the two available tickets.

It's unclear how many entrants were emailed saying they were successful.

Fans of both Liverpool and Tottenham were left outraged after they were convinced that they had won tickets for the final, with price and availability making a trip to Madrid nothing but a pipe dream for many.

After news broke on social media about the mishap, Zavvi tweeted: "Apologies, we're aware of the problem regarding the recent Mastercard Competition. We seem to have had some technical issues and we're currently looking into this."

That tweet has now been deleted.

But after Football.London contacted Zavvi for comment, they have apologised for the mishap blaming 'human error'.

A spokesperson for Zavvi said: “We’re extremely sorry to have got our loyal customers’ hopes up, however due to human error a mistake was made with our mail-out and unfortunately there is only one winner of the tickets.”
