Zara Tindall's 'secret' half-sister Stephanie Phillips announces engagement

Zara Tindall's secretive half-sister has got engaged to her long term boyfriend.

Stephanie Phillips and William Hosier have decided to get married having been together since 2019.

The 23-year-old, whose father is the daughter of Princess Anne's first husband Captain Mark Phillips, announced the news on Instagram.

Worcester-based event rider Stephanie shared the big news the day before Zara's 40th birthday.

She posted a series of photos of herself with her fiancé, an agriculture graduate who is believed to have popped the question on May 9.

Stephanie showed off a large sapphire and diamond engagement ring in the snaps.

One well-wisher wrote beneath the posts: "Congratulations Steph! Wonderful, happy news".

Another commented: "Huge congratulations."

Today royal fans took to social media to wish Zara a happy birthday, having announced in March she is expecting a baby.

Royals Peter and Zara have a rarely talked about their younger sister, who generally keeps herself away from the limelight.

It is well known that Princess Anne keeps her family close at her 700 acre country estate in Gloucestershire.

What is less widely publicised is that her children Peter Philips and Zara Tindall have another sibling.

Stephanie Phillips is not the child of Princess Anne but of her former husband Captain Phillips and his second wife Hawaiian equestrian Sandy Pflueger.

The 23-year-old horse enthusiast grew up not far from Peter and Zara on a nearby farm on the Gatcombe Park estate following the split of her parents in 2012.

While there is an age gap sitting between Zara, 39, and Peter, 43, and their younger sibling, the bond between them seems to be tight.

Stephanie was a flower girl at both their weddings and is well involved in the family.

One cute snap shared on social media shows the horse rider giving Mike Tindal a piggyback.

Stephanie went to Dean Close School in Cheltenham, which caters for boarders and day students, before going on to the University of Worcester.

Like her mother, who was part of the US dressage team in the 1984 Olympics and worked across the world, and her father who spent years in America training the US team, Stephanie seems to enjoy travelling.

The whole extended family have been pictured talking and laughing at equestrian events where Zara has been competing.
