Zara Tindall has been praised after she carried on with an emotional tribute to her grandmother alongside her younger brother and cousins despite a wardrobe-related mishap. Princess Anne's daughter joined a 15-minute vigil around the late monarch's coffin on Saturday (September 17).
The Prince of Wales led his brother the Duke of Sussex, as well as his cousins Zara and Peter Philips, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Lady Louise Windsor and Viscount Severn into Westminster Hall where Queen Elizabeth II has been lying in state following her death on Thursday, September 8, aged 96.
William, who is now the Prince of Wales after the new King Charles passed down his title to his eldest son, was followed in by Harry, with the Duke of York’s daughters, the Earl of Wessex’s children and the Princess Royal’s children behind them.
Her Majesty's grandchildren appeared sombre as they made their way down the steps before taking their positions, where they then stood with bowed heads for 15 minutes. After a brief pause, members of the public were able to continue filing past the late monarch's coffin, paying their final respects while witnessing the royal family's very public grief.
Harry, who turned 38 earlier this week, was notably wearing his uniform in Westminster Hall, ahead of the Queen’s state funeral on Monday. The prince, who saw action on the front line during two tours of duty in Afghanistan, has previously been denied the chance to wear his military uniform as he publicly mourns because he is no longer a working royal.
He wore a Blues and Royals No 1 Uniform, KCVO Neck Order and Star, Afghanistan Operational Service Medal, Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee medals and Army Pilot Wings. William wore the Blues and Royals No 1 uniform, the Garter Sash, the Garter Star, the Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee Medals and RAF pilot wings.
The other grandchildren dressed in black out of respect for the late monarch during the period of national mourning, which is seven days longer for members of the Royal family. Other family members watched on from the sidelines during the vigil, among them The Earl and Countess of Wessex.
But it appeared that Zara lost her shoe as she made her way up the stairs. After sharing a smile with teenage cousin Lady Louise, the accomplished equestrian was spotted bending down to her feet as she followed her brother, Peter. Zara then stood up and carried on walking as the grandchildren all made their way out of Westminster Hall.
And royal fans who were watching the emotional and poignant tribute were quick to praise Zara for graciously dealing with the mishap and said it showed how "totally relatable" she is. @Carolin14982031 said: "Zara loosing her shoe lightened the moment and made things more real."
