Zara shoppers discover secret code built into clothing tags in viral TikTok video

Fans of the high-street store Zara were left shocked this week after finding a 'hidden message' on the clothes tags.

The fashion stores have recently reopened in Scotland and around the UK after months of lockdown meant they were operating on an online-only basis.

However, now customers have unearthed what they are describing as a 'secret code' hidden on the labels of the different items.

Earlier this month, a video quickly went viral on TikTok claiming that shoppers had been missing a key symbol on the tags which would help them know how it will fit.

Posted by Officially_Outfits, the account stated that there are a key list of symbols that will let you know whether to go for your normal size, or if the item is tight or loose fitting.

As changing rooms are currently not open in stores, the shapes could provide a frustrating return trip to the shop after realising the clothes you bought don't fit.

According to OK Online, the shopping hack TikTok star claims that a grey square means you should choose your normal size, while a triangle means that you should size up.

The TikTok video went viral and racked up over 460,000 views with hundreds of Zara fans commenting on how good this little hack is.

A fellow TikTok user, @cooookiemonster210, supported the video and explained how a member of staff once told her this trick while she was purchasing some clothes.

They explained: "The lady working on the register said anything with a triangle on it means you need to size up as their clothes are fitted based off European sizes”.

Kym Marsh’s stylist Martine Alexander decided to investigate herself to see if the rumours were actually true.

Martine said: “I went into Zara and asked one of the members of the team, 'Can you dispel the myth?'

A member of retail staff said: "So it's the different brands, whether it’s Zara woman, Zara basic or Zara TRF. TRF comes up slightly smaller, Zara woman does come up a little on the generous/ true to size, and Zara basic is just basic and is true to size."
