Zara and Mike Tindall dress up for Royal Ascot and assess The Queen's horses

Zara and Mike Tindall dressed up for Royal Ascot and revealed their hopes for The Queen's horses this week.

The couple, among royals to join Her Majesty at the track on this day last year, were interviewed on ITV Racing.

Ascot is being held behind closed doors over five days, with only people crucial to running the meeting allowed in.

The Queen will join the nation watching the 36 races unfold, including Wednesday's Hampton Court Stakes (1.50pm).

Her horse First Receiver is the favourite - and Zara said she will be watching closely.

"She will be glued to the television as always and really sad not to be there," she added.

"To be able to have some runners she will be really excited with some good prospects for the future as well."

Zara said she had been in touch with The Queen's racing manager John Warren and trainer Andrew Balding, who trains her second runner on Wednesday, Tactical (4.10pm).

"I think they are quietly excited and it would be amazing to get her a winner this week- sadly not being there but it's a sport she loves so passionately," Zara added.

Wearing a blue dress and matching fascinator, Zara and Mike, himself in a smart suit, were in good spirits chatting to presenter Oli Bell.

"If you're going to do it, you don't do it by halves mate," said Mike about the impressive outfits.

"You should know that, it's Royal Ascot week."

The winners of the best races on day one, the Queen Anne Stakes (1.50pm) and King's Stand Stakes (3.35pm) were the favourites, Circus Maximus and Battaash.

Although punters following top jockey Frankie Dettori have only had one winner so far, 11/8f Frankly Darling.
