Zambia And Nigeria Qualify For Paris 2024 Olympics

Paris 2024 Olympics Press Conference

Zambia's national women's soccer team has successfully qualified for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics after a thrilling victory over Morocco. In a closely contested match at the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Zambia emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, securing a 3-2 aggregate lead.

The game saw Zambia's Barbra Banda scoring the opening goal in the 38th minute, breaking the deadlock and setting the tone for the match. Despite Morocco's efforts to dominate possession in the second half, they were unable to convert their chances into goals.

With the game heading towards a stalemate, Zambia's team captain Banda sealed the victory during extra time by converting a penalty, securing their place in the Paris Olympics.

Zambia's Group Stage Opponents

As one of the 12 teams set to compete in the women's soccer tournament in Paris, Zambia finds itself in Group B alongside powerhouse teams like the USA, Australia, and Germany. Their schedule includes matches against the USWNT, Australia, and Germany on July 25, 28, and 31 respectively.

Strength in Squad

Coach Bruce Mwape has a talented pool of players at his disposal, including stars like Barbra Banda, Racheal Kundananji, Grace Chanda, and Lushomo Mweemba. Banda and Kundananji, who have recently made waves in women's soccer, bring valuable experience from their time in the NWSL.

Kundananji notably became the most expensive female soccer player in history by joining Bay FC. Mwape's strategic guidance and the team's collective experience from previous Olympics and World Cup appearances bode well for Zambia's prospects in Paris.

Nigeria Joins Zambia in Paris Olympics

Joining Zambia in the Paris 2024 Olympics is Nigeria's Super Falcons, who secured their spot by defeating South Africa 1-0 on aggregate. Rasheedat Ajibade's goal in the first leg of the qualifiers proved decisive, as the Super Falcons clinched their first Olympic berth in 16 years.

Nigeria's return to the Olympics marks a significant milestone for the team, showcasing the growing strength of women's soccer in Africa. With Zambia and Nigeria set to represent the continent in Paris, fans can look forward to an exciting display of talent and determination on the global stage.
