Zak Vyner an Aberdeen target as Derek McInnes makes contact over loan move

Europa League-bound Aberdeen are lining up a loan move for Zak Vyner.

The Dons have made contact with Bristol City over a potential loan move for the right-sided defender.

Derek McInnes has been looking for defensive cover with Ash Taylor out with a hamstring problem, although Greg Leigh has returned and Mikey Devlin is also close to a comeback.

There is also uncertainty over the future of Scott McKenna, who has handed in a transfer request, but he is expected to be on the flight with his team for their Europa League trip to Rijeka.

McInnes, however, has said he was looking for another defender regardless and one who could, potentially, cover a number of positions.

Vyner has only made eight appearances for Bristol but has had successful loan spells at Rotherham in the Championship last season, Plymouth Argyle and Accrington Stanley.

The 22-year-old, however, won’t be signed before Thursday’s European game so he won’t be eligible for either game of the third qualifying round.

Aberdeen are still waiting to see if anyone will meet their valuation for McKenna before Thursday’s English deadline.

Nottingham Forest and Queen’s Park Rangers are both in the mix but will need to up the ante substantially to get their man.
