Zak Lovelace breaks silence on injury after first Rangers start

Zak Lovelace has broken his silence after sustaining an injury on his full Rangers debut.

The 17-year-old started his first league game for the Ibrox club in Paisley as interim manager Steven Davis rewarded the youngster for his fine form with the B team.

He was instrumental in the lead-up to the first goal after he turned St Mirren's Scott Tanser inside and out before eventually a penalty was awarded to Rangers for handball by Ryan Strain. The game ended 3-0 to the Light Blues.

However, the teenager had to be withdrawn from proceedings after just 40 minutes after picking up what looked to be a hamstring injury.

As he attempted to skip past Alex Gogic on the wing he immediately pulled up. Initially, it appeared that he was looking for a free kick, but replays instantly cleared up that Lovelace actually clutched the back of his left leg and that was the reason for going to the ground.

He was eventually stretchered down the tunnel at the break but was pictured at the end of the game walking around the dugout area.

Lovelace has now spoken out for the first time since the injury as he gave fans an update on social media.

Lovelace wrote: "Happy to get my first start for Rangers and to be involved in the first goal. Unfortunate to pick up an injury but I shall be back soon".

Speaking after the game, Davis was asked about the teenager's knock.

He said: "Firstly, I thought he was really lively, bringing that energy, power and pace that we know he's got. He brought that to the game and was causing them problems, so I'm disappointed for him.

"It's a bit of a double-edged sword for him today in terms of getting his full debut and then that happening.

"He says he's feeling a little bit better after the game but until he's assessed we'll not really know the damage."
