LOS ANGELES _ A nightmarish season for the Mets took another stinging turn on Wednesday when they put Zack Wheeler on the 10-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis.
Both Wheeler and manager Terry Collins insisted that nothing was physically wrong on Monday after Wheeler was pounded for seven runs in two innings by the Dodgers, bringing his total to 15 earned runs in his last two starts.
But two days later, the 27-year-old Wheeler (3-5, 5.29 ERA) became the fifth of the Mets' primary starting pitchers in spring training to land on the disabled list.
The Mets did not release a timetable for a return for Wheeler, who until his recent skid had pitched well after a two-year absence recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Mets promoted right-handers Tyler Pill and Erik Goeddel from Triple-A Las Vegas. Pill will start on Wednesday night against the Dodgers while Goeddel will be available as an extra arm out of the overworked bullpen.
Infielder Matt Reynolds was optioned to Las Vegas.
