Zack Steffen ready for Champions League debut after tough Man City start

Zack Steffen is excited to make his Champions League debut for Manchester City after overcoming a tough start.

Steffen admitted it had been a difficult transition to training with one of the best clubs in the world after being sidelined for most of the calendar year with injury. The US stopper made his debut for the Blues in a Carabao Cup game with Bournemouth and also played at Burnley, but has not been able to force Ederson out of the first team.

Pep Guardiola has seen enough from the goalkeeper in training to trust him for the Champions League game with Marseille with the team already qualified, and Steffen can't wait to hear the famous anthem and get another opportunity to play.

"Obviously we all want to play games and we're competitive, we want to play as many games as I can," he said.

"I've learned a lot from the coaching staff and Eddy and Scott and I still feel like there is a lot for me to learn but I feel like I've improved in a decent way since I've come here.

"The beginning of this year was pretty rough with injuries so it has been a while since i played games and trained and then coming to a club of such a high calibre was a little tough and took a while to get into my swing of things and comfortable but now I feel settled and like my confidence is back and ready for tomorrow.

"The goalkeeping staff do a good job of continuing to push the keepers on a daily basis.

"They're very detailed, want us to be perfect and get better and save everything, be clean, do everything for the defence in front of us. You can't come into training and give it 50 per cent, you have to give 100pc every day. That's why we're one of the best clubs in the world."
