When you decided to publicly announce that you are supporting a man who is actively harming American values, it has consequences. Especially in Hollywood. And Zachary Levi has been learning that the hard way.
Levi was speaking with Variety about a studio he’s building in Austin, Levi began talking about his recent issues within Hollywood. They all stem from Levi himself. First, he complained about people not seeing Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Then, he started questioning the COVID-19 vaccine. And after Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his chosen candidate, dropped out of the presidential race, Levi backed Donald Trump.
That has made him a celebrity that man do not want to interact with anymore. The once beloved star of Chuck is now on the blacklist of many fans as well as creatives in Hollywood and Levi cannot stop talking about it. You made your decision to back Trump! Live with it. In his new interview, he said that his team let him know that people don’t want to work with him.
“I know that there are people that would prefer not to work with me now because of my opinions,” Levi said. “My team has let me know. They haven’t given me any specific names, but there are people who prefer not to work with me at this time. And it’s unfortunate. I knew that was probably going to happen. I didn’t make this decision blindly or casually.”
Levi then went on to try and say that he isn’t a fan of “Trump’s Trumpiness.” Okay then what are you a fan of? Separating families, attacking minorities, taking rights away from LGBTQ+ Americans, and stripping women of their bodily autonomy? “I didn’t like a lot of these personal things, the ways that he carries himself a lot of the time. I understand people’s aversion,” he said. “Do I think the whole package is somehow perfect? No. In fact, most people who voted for Donald Trump recognize a lot of the imperfections in all of it. Nobody was saying, ‘This is the Orange Messiah.’”
That is, in fact, what a lot of his base acts like and to think otherwise is to miss the point many left-wing Americans are making. Some of those left-leaning people include Levi’s past cast members and the new head of the DCU, James Gunn. Both Gunn and Levi’s Fury of the Gods co-star, Rachel Zegler, strongly oppose Trump. He doesn’t seem to care that people don’t want to work with him because he sees it as a business opportunity.
“While there are some people who might prefer not to work with me anymore, there’s a lot of people on that side of the political spectrum who are even more inclined to hire me and to want to do business with me because ‘I need some people who voted another way,’” Levi said. “They see that what I did was at great risk. And they were like, ‘You know what? I give you a lot of props for that because that’s not an easy thing to do.’ And I go, ‘I appreciate that.’”
What Levi’s comments continue to do, for me, is annoy me. What do you mean that you think you’ll flourish and be fine? Do you understand that voting for Trump has put many Americans’ lives at risk? All because you what? Didn’t want an educated woman running the country? Because of your medical conspiracy theories? Well I hope those theories work out for you now that Trump has cut funding for important medical advancements.
Levi went on to say that he thinks he’ll be fine in his career. “I know it to be true because I’ve gotten messages from lots of people who I won’t name but who were very grateful to me for taking the stand that I took,” Levi said. “And also they would tell me, ‘I want to do that, but I’m so afraid.’ And I would tell them, ‘Listen, you’re on your journey. I’m on my journey. You’ve got to keep trusting God. And if you feel compelled to step out in that way, then do it boldly and know that you’re going to be OK. And if you don’t feel that conviction yet, then don’t. It’s all good.’”
I’m glad you think so. But you were not a good enough actor before all of this to warrant me to care. I’m still mad that he decided to make Gavin Creel’s death all about his conspiracy theories so I hope his films end up on the Daily Wire where no one will have to listen to him anymore.
