Zach Wilson Traded To Denver Broncos For Fresh Start

BYU quarterback Zach Wilson holds a New York Jets jersey with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell after being selected second overall by the team in the first round of the NFL football draft, Thursd

Zach Wilson, the 2021 second overall draft pick, has been traded from the New York Jets to the Denver Broncos. The Jets are sending Wilson and a seventh-round pick to the Broncos in exchange for a sixth-rounder. This move comes after Wilson's disappointing tenure with the Jets, where he struggled to meet expectations.

Wilson, known for his athletic ability and arm talent, failed to find consistency in his first three seasons with the Jets. Despite flashes of potential, he was unable to establish himself as the franchise quarterback. The Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers last offseason, further diminishing Wilson's role.

After Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury, Wilson reclaimed the starting position but continued to struggle. He faced benchings and injury concerns throughout his time with the Jets, culminating in his trade to the Broncos.

In Denver, Wilson will have the opportunity to revive his career alongside quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci. The Broncos, who recently released Russell Wilson, may still be in the market for a quarterback in the upcoming draft.

Wilson's future with the Broncos remains uncertain, as the team is unlikely to pick up his fifth-year option. This means Wilson could become a free agent next offseason, adding further intrigue to his career trajectory.

This trade echoes the Jets' decision to move on from Sam Darnold in 2021, trading him to the Carolina Panthers before drafting Wilson. Both Darnold and Wilson, highly touted prospects, failed to live up to expectations in New York.
