Zach Parker thrust into Saul Alvarez chat after Mexican agrees Billy Joe Saunders fight

Zach Parker could find himself catapulted into line for a mouthwatering showdown with superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez if the Mexican defeats Billy Joe Saunders in May.

Derbyshire fighter Parker is the No.1 challenger with the WBO for Saunders’ super-middleweight crown, which will be one of three belts on the line when Saunders and Alvarez meet.

And if Alvarez, who will be the hot favourite, beats Saunders, it is hoped that Parker will be installed as the mandatory challenger for his new crown.

The fact Parker’s name is even in the conversation with the Mexican superstar, whose WBA and WBC belts will also be up for grabs against Saunders, is a massive boost early in what he hopes will be a busy 2021.

Parker, whose record is 19&0, with 13 knockouts, will fight next on March 26 at London’s Copper Box Arena against an as yet unnamed opponent, his first outing since signing with promoter Frank Warren.

Parker said: “I am just looking forward to what 2021 brings.

“A lot of people say I have come under the radar, but I have come up from the bottom and worked my way up the hard way without a massive promoter.

“Now it makes it all a lot sweeter to have such huge backing and it will make things a lot easier for me and the team.”
