Zach Clough speaks out on Nottingham Forest after signing Carlisle deal

Nottingham Zach Clough has opened up on his disappointing spell at Nottingham Forest and says he feels "really free" following his move to Carlisle United.

The midfielder has penned a two-year contract with the Cumbrians, which comes just under six months after he left the club to join Wigan Athletic.

Clough endured a tough time on Trentside, having signed for a fee of around £3m when he was considered hot property.

But he failed to make any kind of impact during his time at the Reds and couldn't hold down a first-team place in what was a bitterly disappointing spell.

And speaking to the Carlisle News and Star, Clough is relishing his new challenge.

“A lot of people don’t see what goes on off the field at a club like Nottingham Forest,” he says. “Sometimes everyone thinks it’s always the player’s fault, and sometimes it isn’t.

“I think to get away from there and feel really free now, and to come and smile every day, coming into work, and meet new people…I can’t wait.

“You find yourself a bit more [in situations like that]. You find other things that make you happy away from football. But hopefully now I can get back onto the football pitch and get smiling again.”
