Zac Taylor sends interesting message to Bengals season ticket holders

Messaging from the Cincinnati Bengals to season ticket holders has gone public and it’s again interesting viewing as the team heads into Year 2 under head coach Zac Taylor.

As expected, the letter centers on the excitement around owning the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

Here’s an excerpt, via Lance McAlister of 700WLW:

“It’s a new year and we are focused on building a winning culture that creates excitement for Bengals fans.

We’re officially ‘On the Clock’ for the 2020 NFL Draft and have a lot of draft capital that can improve our team. It starts with the No. 1 overall pick and we will be looking for a player that can elevate this team and help us win immediately. We will also add key pieces throughout the draft as we pick first in every round.

“There is going to be a lot of excitement when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announces our first pick on April 23, and we want to see that enthusiasm continue all the way through the season….”

The rest is the usual season ticket pitch, stressing the importance of fans.

Two things will stick out. One, the blurb about the No. 1 pick “looking for a player that can elevate this team and help us win immediately,” which seems to pretty clearly hint at a quarterback. Two, the lack of a mention for the free-agency process.

Granted, the letter wanted to be succinct so it should have obviously focused on the thing that has fans excited the most — the prospects of a new franchise quarterback like Joe Burrow.

Any messaging is good messaging from a usually-quiet Bengals team though, so it was interesting to see copies of the letter go public. The team has mightily struggled with attendance, so this is the sales pitch of choice.
