Zac Taylor’s defensive coordinator search is dramatically expanding with names like Marquand Manuel

It appears the Cincinnati Bengals search for a new defensive coordinator will be more robust than anticipated.

With Jack Del Rio falling through and Dom Capers reportedly turning down a chance at the job, Zac Taylor and the Bengals are casting a wide net.

So says a new report:

News broke Wednesday night the Bengals had asked the Los Angeles Rams about interviewing Aubrey Pleasant. Whether the Rams will grant permission is a different conversation.

More interesting are some of the other names listed here, including collegiate candidates. Marquand Manuel is the only one there with NFL experience and was last with the Atlanta Falcons. Mike Elko has had various notable collegiate stops, including Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Todd Grantham at Florida is another known name who has been waiting for the right opportunity.

Considering the importance of a defensive coordinator for a team led by a young offensive coach, the Bengals taking their time with the position on staff isn’t a bad thing.
