The Cincinnati Bengals reported to offseason workouts Tuesday and found the latest iteration of a team slogan on t-shirts hanging in their lockers.
New head coach Zac Taylor kept it simple with this one: “It’s About Us.”
“All that matters is what’s inside these walls. There are so many distractions, so many different things going on outside these walls that can distract you and divert you away from what’s really important,” Taylor said, according to Bengals.com. “I just want to make sure that our players and coaches understand that as we take care of business inside these walls, we’re going to be able achieve the things we want to achieve.”
A locker room leader like Dre Kirkpatrick offered his thoughts as to what it means: “Worry about us. Re-focusing. Coming together. Building a bond. Don’t worry about outside distractions, but what we can build on as a team. Be great communicators. His message got across pretty clearly. He just wants us to go out there and win.”
The Bengals under Marvin Lewis had some interesting slogans over the years. “Do Your Job,” “Run on Your Own Gas” and “Challenge the Moment” were some of the recent notables.
This one feels fitting, at least. Taylor and the Bengals are going to come under plenty of scrutiny as the first-time head coach goes about building a roster and getting them ready. Rallying together is a fitting, simple theme.
