Zac Taylor plans to give Bengals players more rest than usual in camp

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has spent his first offseason as head coach making some interesting headlines because of the way he innovates.

“Innovates” is a bit of a loose term given the formulaic ways the Bengals had fallen into over the years, of course. Players have talked about a “new energy” around the team thanks to something as simple as finally being allowed to play music in the locker room.

On the field itself, Taylor plans to take a less-is-more approach with his players this summer, which he revealed on the Hobson’s Choice Podcast with Geoff Hobson:

“We’ll have a couple of more days off than teams have historically done. When we’re on the field we want our guys to play fast and physical. We’re not going to be on the field for three hours. It’s closer to two hours. That way our guys are fresh, top-notch and at their best.”

Call it a fresh approach to training camp in Cincinanti. Other teams have used this approach in the past, so it should be interesting to see how it pays off for Taylor from both a health and production standpoint.

This news comes at a time when the Bengals have already suffered two major setbacks along the offensive line with Jonah Williams likely lost for the year and Clint Boling choosing to retire.
