Zac Taylor on aggressive first-half decision: ‘We’re not going to just concede the half’

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor isn’t shy about how aggressive he wants to be on the field.

Asked about his decision to call a timeout late in the first half of an eventual Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Taylor told the media it was all about gunning for points:

“…It’s not a certain message, it’s just our philosophy, were not going to just concede the half. Obviously there is a point in time where you are going to but with 50 seconds left we feel we are explosive enough to go down and score there. The guys made me look good on that one.”

And it worked: Taylor preserved some clock and the Bengals ended up scoring before the half on a long pass to John Ross.

Normally this type of mentality wouldn’t be major news for an NFL team. But it’s a little different than what fans have come to know over the years from Bengals coaches.

Taylor’s coaching debut wasn’t perfect and the team didn’t win, but this is one part of why fans and the team have left Week 1 so encouraged.
