Zac Taylor experimenting with Jeff Driskel at WR, special teams

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor held true to his word Tuesday, playing backup quarterback Jeff Driskel in different roles.

Driskel ended up lining up at wideout during Tuesday’s rescheduled practice, reaffirming what Taylor had said the day prior.

“I think tomorrow, we’re going to take a look at Driskel on special teams as well. He’s a weapon,” Taylor said, per the team’s site. “He’s got good size. He’s got great speed, the athleticism. So don’t be surprised tomorrow if you see him kind of wrinkled in there a little bit in some other phases.”

This comes on the heels of rookie Ryan Finley getting run with the second team, something coaches have confirmed will also happen during Thursday’s preseason game.

It has been apparent since the Bengals traded up to get Finley that Driskel, a carryover from the last coaching staff, might have a hard time making the final roster.

But Taylor has been consistently praising Driskel as an athlete, so he’s got a clear shot to make the final roster by impressing elsewhere, which would still technically mean the Bengals could end up rostering three quarterbacks.
