Zac Efron as Ted Bundy is Extremely Wicked in new trailer

Now this looks creepy.

Zac Efron sheds his good-boy heartthrob image to reveal a darkness beneath in new Ted Bundy biopic Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

The film from Joe Berlinger - responsible for the Netflix documentary series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes - is told from the viewpoint of Liz (Lily Collins), a single mother and Ted's girlfriend who had no idea her beau was a serial killer.

The trailer also teases the cult following that Bundy enjoyed upon his arrest, including a plethora of female fans.

One of the female fans due to be shown is Carole Ann Boone, Bundy's future wife who proposed to as he took to the stand.

Boone will be portrayed by Skins star Kaya Scodelario, who continues high profile roles after her turn in The Maze Runner franchise.

The director previously spoke to EMPIRE about the transformation that Efron underwent as Bundy.

"I didn't want him to be mimicking Bundy," Berlinger revealed. "I wanted him to find the freedom to interpret the physicality of the man in his own way."

Efron "lost weight and wore false teeth" to look the part.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival to glowing reviews for Efron as the killer.

Netflix, meanwhile, has been warning viewers about watching the Ted Bundy tapes alone.

Do you think Efron pulls off the role?

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile is released in UK cinemas and on Sky Cinema and NOW TV on May 3, 2019.
