Zac Efron apologises for 'completely insensitive tweet' on Martin Luther King Day

Zac Efron has apologised for paying tribute to Martin Luther King on a national holiday dedicated to the civil rights leader with a tweet that also celebrated his 10 million strong Instagram following.

People across the world marked Dr King's life and legacy on social media. But Efron was accused of disrespecting Dr King by referring back to his personal achievements in his own tribute to him.

“I’m grateful for a couple things today: Martin Luther King Jr & 10 million followers on IG #MLKDay,” he wrote.

His unimpressed followers advised him that perhaps news of his huge Instagram following should have been saved for another tweet, and on another day.

The We Are Your Friends actor has now deleted the “completely insensitive“ post and apologised for any offence caused.

“I have nothing but the greatest admiration and respect for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I realise that last night’s post was completely insensitive and I apologise to anyone who I may have offended. So sorry. Z.”
