Yves Bissouma backs himself as better than any Arsenal midfielder after summer transfer links

Yves Bissouma believes he is the best midfielder in England’s top division.

Arsenal have been interested in the Brighton star in the past, but there was no concrete suggestion that the club were ever going to act on that interest in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners instead opted to extend Granit Xhaka’s stay at the Emirates Stadium and sign Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht in their bid to strengthen their midfield options.

However, they could end up regretting the decision not to make a formal offer for Bissouma, especially after the 24-year-old claimed he believes he is better than any of the current crop at Arsenal - or any other Premier League club - and that he is striving to become the best midfielder in the Premier League.

When asked who he thinks is the best by his former Seagulls teammate Glenn Murray, in an interview for the BBC, Bissouma said: “I don’t want to be arrogant but that’s my mind. I think for me, it’s me because, in my head, I’m working to be the best.

“I know the Premier League has many good midfielders, but for me, it’s me because that gives me confidence and energy to work hard to show people that ‘I’m here, I’m Bissouma.

“I just want to be focused on football to play every game, every week to be good, to help my team to win and yeah, the rest we will see for the future.”

Bissouma, who has been at the Amex Stadium since the summer of 2018 after signing from Lille for around £15million, continues to impress for Brighton, and made his 100th appearance for the south coast side in their 1-0 win over Brentford at the weekend.

Whether he truly is the best midfielder in the league will be questioned, but it’s fair to say that he will attract some interest from some of the top teams in the world if he keeps on improving.
