Yungblud hopes coming out as pansexual will help others with their own sexuality

British singer Yungblud has opened up about his sexuality to say he hopes that discussing being pansexual will encourage others to embrace their own sexual identities.

The 24-year-old chart topping star – whose real name is Dominic Richard Harrison – has previously described himself as ‘sexually fluid’, has dated American singer Halsey in the past and currently dates US singer and fashion designer Jesse Jo Stark.

In a new interview, the star explains that he considers himself pansexual – which is when someone is attracted to people irrespective of their sex, gender or gender identity.

Yungblud says he discovered he was pansexual after reading about the pansexuality in magazines and now hopes by speaking up about being pansexual himself he will encourage others to feel comfortable with their own sexuality.

He told Hunger magazine: “I was just like with it all; ‘I’m pan, you know what I’m saying?’

“It doesn’t matter what genitalia you’ve got or what you identify as, if I love you, I love you and that’s it, and that’s (something) I’ve struggled with my whole life, because I didn’t know what I was.”

He continued: “I couldn’t quite put a label on it, then I learned about pansexuality from magazines and the internet and I think it’s so beautiful that sexuality has really come to the forefront of my generation’s mind, that you can be beautifully yourself.

“What I want to encourage with my message is that no matter what you are, no matter how you want to express yourself, you are individual and you are beautiful just by simply existing.

“I wanted to make a stand so that if anyone’s out there scared to come out, they will come out.”

The singer – who is in the midst of a BBC Radio 1 takeover this week in which he is helming a show every night from 6pm to 8pm – also discussed his upcoming new music.

He released his number 1 selling album Weird! last year and is about to unleash his new single, Fleabag, which is the lead track from an as-yet-untitled forthcoming new album.

He said: “With success, and whatever the f*** ‘fame’ means, comes expectation.

“I think it’s really scary to fall into people’s expectations, an artist should never become an expectation, because you’re not an expectation, that’s the definition of being an artist … I’m not gonna be the same artist that I am today as I am tomorrow.”

Adding to his busy week, Yungblud was among those performing for Team GB at a special concert this week.

The star channelled the late music legend David Bowie to perform a cover of his iconic song Heroes in front of an audience of Olympic champions.

The event was held at the SSE Arena Wembley in London, hosted by the National Lottery and featuring other performers including Bastille, Anne Marie and Laura Mvula.

While Yungblud will be entertaining more crowds himself as he is to embark on a tour titled Life On Mars next month which will see him take in dated across the UK until December – with future dates across Europe set for 2022.
