Yulee retires Titans RB Derrick Henry’s jersey

Record-breaking Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry returned to Yulee, Florida to visit his high school earlier in the week.

There, at halftime in the spring game, his school retired his jersey number of No. 2 that he wore during his prep career.

Yulee also unveiled a wall mural illustrating the rusher’s football career near the football locker room.

“I thought it was a cool deal. I’m honored and humbled by it,” Henry said after the ceremony. “I just want to open up doors for kids who are from Yulee and the whole First Coast area. It’s a moment I’ll never forget.”

Prior to his college career at Alabama, Henry was a 5-star recruit, and set the Florida high school record after recording a 510-yard performance against Jacksonville. He averaged 9.2 yards per carry and 327.8 yards per game as the nation’s No. 1 athlete, according to the 247Sports Composite.

He continued to build on this momentum after joining the Crimson Tide, where won the Heisman Trophy and a national championship in 2015.

The current Titan also set SEC single-season records with 2,219 rushing yards and rushing touchdowns (28) in his last collegiate season before being drafted by Tennessee at No. 45 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.
