CHICAGO _ Yu Darvish deserved to earn the victory at Wrigley Field that still awaits him.
But the Cubs offense perked up in the seventh and eighth innings Friday to pull out a 4-3 win over the Pirates before a crowd of 40,740.
Kris Bryant snapped a scoreless tie by hitting a home run to start the seventh off Chris Archer that fueled a three-run rally.
The rally occurred one inning after Darvish was pulled after he pitched six innings of two-hit ball. Darvish walked one, struck out eight and retired the first 13 batters he faced.
But the offense needed another rally after reliever Pedro Strop allowed a three-run home run to Starling Marte in the top of the eighth.
In the bottom of the inning, Bryant and Victor Caratini drew walks off reliever Kyle Crick, and Jason Heyward came through with a single to left. Third-base coach Brian Butterfield immediately waved Bryant home, and Bryant's slide beat the throw from Bryan Reynolds.
Closer Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save in relief of Randy Rosario.
