YouTubers may be using special cameras with built-in skin smoothing filters

If you regularly watch YouTube videos, it’s likely you’ve stumbled across videos of influencers with envy-inducing glowing skin.

While the YouTuber may credit their glow to various skin and makeup products, an influencer now claims that this isn't the case.

Instead, influencer RawBeautyKristi claims that the glowing skin is the result of special cameras with built-in skin smoothing filters.

She explained: “I am realising as I go on how many people either knowingly or unknowingly use a skin smoothing filter on their YouTube & IG videos. I KNOW that skin has texture, but I am still always wondering why my skin looks the way it does.

“There are cameras *mainly the Sony A5100* that TONS of ppl use (a lot for IG videos & pics) and that has a built in skin smoothing filter, making people skin look like smooth butter. Highlight looks SO GOOD on that camera.”

While Kristi didn’t name any specific YouTubers, she highlighted one recent video in which a glitch revealed the effect of the filter.

She added: “I saw a video the other day where it briefly glitched and it was alarming how much smoothing it had on it. No real reason for saying this other than.. ur skin is normal.

"People have texture, and the internet can be weird and make u feel like something is wrong and its not.”

Unfortunately, several cameras have the filter turned on as default, and YouTubers have to go through several settings to turn it off.

Back in 2017 beauty blogger Julie Camille posted a video showing how to turn the filter off, and the huge difference it made.

She said: “If I get closer to the light my skin is still in focus, but it is not blurring it like it was before, and you can see all my beautiful imperfections."
