YouTube star's mansion party sparks lockdown as revellers flout social distancing

A YouTube star's mansion party has sparked a tightening of lockdown as revellers flouted social distancing.

Jake Paul hosted the gathering at his sprawling pad in Calabasas, California, where guests were said to have partied into the night.

The 23-year-old internet personality, with 11 million YouTube subscribers, reportedly had dozens arrive to his $7.395 million (£5.4million) home where they allegedly drank and swung from a raised excavator crane on the property.

Revellers also pulled a car into the packed lobby area of Paul's luxury pad, local reports claim.

Mayor of Calabasas Alicia Weintraub has now increased lockdown measures around mass gatherings and said fines will be issued to anyone flouting the rules.

Mayor Weintraub said: "It’s completely unacceptable to be interacting with people like that during this time.

"People need to be wearing masks and people need to be keeping their distance. You can’t be having parties with over 100 people."

Fines of $100 (£80) will also be issued to anyone not wearing a mask in public, reports the Los Angeles Times.

The party came as Los Angeles County health officials recorded 2,916 new coronavirus cases and 57 deaths from the virus on the same day in July 11.

Weintraub added: "Younger and younger people in our community are testing positive.

"Even though a young person might not get really sick, they have the potential to spread it to someone else who could get really sick."

"People are not acknowledging that we’re living in the time of COVID-19."

Paul's sprawling pad comes with a pool, spa and two waterfalls - as well as a motor court big enough for 12 cars.

It was previously reported he moved to the mansion as it offered more privacy after his alleged partying in the Beverly Grove was frustrating neighbour.

The star originally made his name on the now-defunct viral video app Vine before finding success in a role on the Disney Channel series, Bizaardvark.
