YouTube down: Video site stops working for some users

YouTube appears to have stopped working – but only for some users.

A huge number of people are having issues getting the site to work properly, according to outage tracking service Down Detector, as well as a host of people on YouTube. Most of those affected users appear to be on the west coast of California.

But others seem to be loading up the site fine, with no issues logging in or watching videos.

At least some of those who are experiencing the problems appear to be affected by them in strange ways.

Users report being logged out and not being able to log back in, for instance, or that the site appears to be working fine until they try and upload a video.

Others said they could watch videos but not comment on them.

YouTube has around two billion monthly users, making even the smallest outage a significant event. Every day, people watch more than a billion hours of video on the site, it claims.
