YouTube Adds A/B Testing for Titles to Help Boost Engagement

YouTube is rolling out a new feature for creators that will allow them to do A/B testing for video titles. The platform has begun rolling out a new tool that allows creators to test multiple title variations on the same video.

It automatically rotates the title options across viewers and uses performance metrics like click-through rate and watch time to determine which title works best. Once testing is complete, the top-performing title is applied by default.

This expansion follows YouTube’s earlier “Test & Compare” tool for thumbnails, which allows creators to test up to three thumbnail images. Now, in addition to visuals, creators will also be able to fine-tune the title they use to attract viewers.

“You’ll be able to upload multiple title options, and we’ll figure out which one drives the most engagement,” YouTube said in a support post. “We’re rolling this out to a small percentage of creators at first, but we’ll keep you posted on our plans to expand it.”

When it comes to the availability part, the title testing tool is being rolled out in phases, starting with a limited group of users. However, a wider rollout is expected later this year.

However, along with the new tools, YouTube recently updated its monetization rules under the YouTube Partner Program to encourage more original and authentic content. The platform now takes a stricter stance on what it calls “inauthentic content,” which includes mass-produced, repetitive, or AI-generated videos with minimal human input.

It means channels using reused clips, auto-generated voiceovers, or basic slideshows without adding meaningful commentary or value may be blocked from monetizing. While AI-generated content is still allowed, creators are required to clearly disclose the use of AI, especially when it involves realistic or altered content.
