Youths kissed and drank booze as they mocked coronavirus lockdown during wake for tragic pal

A group of youngsters gathered to celebrate the life of a tragic pal despite the social distancing measures.

Dozens of youths hugged and kissed, swigged booze and posed for photos as they flouted lockdown guidelines on social gatherings.

Some took to social media telling authorities to “f**k yer social distancing”.

Up to 30 people drank alcohol – including Buckfast, vodka and MD 2020 – on wasteland in Coatbridge after the funeral of James McKenna, whose cause of death is still being investigated.

One of those in attendance posted a selfie on Instagram commenting: “Away for a social distance swally way ma bestos probs be in the cells for 4”. She also posted a photo of the group with the comment: “Rip James” .

One lad planning to attend goaded authorities when he posted “f**k yer social distancing” before later making his account private.

A member of the public, who fears that the group could have put themselves and others at risk, said: “Some of these individuals have lost friends and family to the virus and others are single mothers.

“One remarked ‘f**k yer social distancing’. They were all heavily intoxicated.”

Announcing the funeral plans for James, his family had requested people wishing to pay their respects should observe social distancing measures during a farewell procession on Friday  ahead of Saturday’s ceremony.
