Youths flout lockdown rules after break in at Livingston FC stadium

Livingston FC say they have contacted police after a group of youths broke into their stadium and ran across the playing surface.

Officials warned the youngsters were “putting themselves at great risk” after it emerged they also attempted to enter the stand at the Tony Macaroni Arena after breaching the Covid-19 lockdown on Sunday.

Footage of the incident has now been passed to Police Scotland, who are investigating.

The West Lothian side last hosted a match at the stadium on March 4, a 2-2 draw with Celtic.

It comes less than a month after a similar incident at St Mirren’s Simple Digital Arena in Paisley.

A short statement posted on Twitter read: “The club is aware of an incident on Sunday whereby a group of youths climbed into the stadium, accessed the playing surface and attempted to enter the building.

“This will absolutely not be tolerated & resultantly, CCTV footage of the incident has been passed to the police.

“We remind these individuals that current Government guidelines state that people should stay home, stay safe and help protect the NHS.

“Social distancing was clearly not exercised here and the group in question are putting themselves at great risk.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
